The washing machine does not work or is filling with water
Before you panic, there are several simple items you should check before calling a repairer. Every technician can tell you dozens of stories of a magic fix called "plugging in."

Check the water source. Both hoses must be attached and both water inlet valves open. Check that the hoses are free of twisting and that nothing is blocking the inlet valve strainers.
Make sure the power cord is properly connected and that there is power into the outlet. Check circuit breakers to make sure they are not tripped.
Clean the inner cover switch. In most washing machines, the cap should be closed and the cap switch turned on. Lint and dirt can jam the switch and malfunction. Clean it by dipping a cotton ball in rubbing alcohol and gently clean up all the debris.
The washer does not drain or spin properly
Drain problems can come from clogged hoses, improper loading of clothing, obstructions, or even too much detergent.
Even if you check the pockets, a small thing can be overlooked. Coins, pens, or even baby socks can get stuck in the pump or between the basket and the basin and slow or prevent the drainage.
If the washer is overloaded or improperly loaded, it may become unbalanced and not allow the washer to spin properly. Adjust and redistribute wet laundry or remove some to allow the washer to finish spinning.
Check that the drain hose is properly installed. The end of the drain hose should not be more than 96 inches above the ground.
Remove the drain hose and check for blockages. Remove any residue before reinstalling.
Don't use too much detergent. An abundance of soap suds can slow the drainage process and cause your washer to malfunction.
Disabled automatic dispensers
The washer opens and the dispensers are still full of detergent or fabric softener. There could be easy solutions.
Always use the correct formula on dedicated dispensers. If washer manual calls for liquid bleach - never use powder.
Each month, clean each dispenser by heating a cup of distilled white vinegar and adding it to the dispenser. Then run the washer on a regular cycle. The vinegar will clear any clogs or debris that has built up. |
