New York, NY (Sports Network) - Alabama and Oregon remained a solid 1-2 punch in the latest Associated Press college football poll after easy victories on Saturday, as the top five remained the same from last week. The Crimson Tide, after a 45-3 rout of Georgia State, received 55 first-place votes and a total of 1,495 points from a nationwide media panel for the second straight week. Oregon, which has scored at least 55 points in each of its five games, picked up the other five No. 1 tallies and a total of 1,424 points. Clemson also cruised to an easy win, 49-14 at Syracuse, and kept the third spot, while Ohio State and Stanford followed to complete the same top five as last week. Ohio State and Stanford each gutted out tough wins Saturday -- the Buckeyes a 40-30 triumph at Northwestern and the Cardinal a 31-28 home victory against Washington. Florida State, after a 63-0 thrashing of then-No. 25 Maryland, moved up two spots to sixth, while Georgia dropped one spot to seventh after surviving with a 34-31 overtime win at Tennessee. Louisville also dipped one spot to eighth despite a 30-7 win at Temple, while Texas A&M and LSU again held the final two spots in the top 10. The second 10 consists of UCLA, Oklahoma, Miami-Florida, South Carolina, Baylor, Washington, Florida, Michigan, Northwestern and Texas Tech. Baylor moved up two spots from 17th after outscoring West Virginia, 73-42. Fresno State, Oklahoma State, Northern Illinois, Virginia Tech and Missouri are the last five teams ranked this week. Northern Illinois, Virginia Tech and Missouri are this weeks newcomers, replacing Arizona State, Ole Miss and Maryland. Northern Illinois and Missouri are each 5-0, while Virginia Techs lone loss came in the season opener against Alabama. Arizona State was 22nd, but fell out after a 37-34 loss to Notre Dame in Arlington, while Ole Miss was 24th and dropped a 30-22 decision at Auburn. Next Saturdays schedule features a trio of ranked matchups. Two, not surprisingly, come from the SEC, as Missouri takes on Georgia between the hedges in Athens and LSU welcomes Florida to Death Valley. Also, Oregon will likely face its stiffest test to date with a visit to Washington in a key Pac-12 North showdown.
