With the news of MLSE reaching out to Brendan Shanahan for a front office job with the Leafs coming on the heels of Trevor Lindens hiring in Vancouver, there appears a clear trend of teams hiring former stars – and preferably alumni – to run their hockey operations. Joe Sakic is running things in Colorado; Steve Yzerman is in charge in Tampa Bay; and Ron Francis, currently the No. 2 in Carolina, is widely expected to one day take over the Hurricanes hockey ops. There are several success stories with this business model, the benchmark perhaps set by former Bruins great Cam Neely who has been President and Alternate Governor of the team since 2010. But it doesnt always work, as some Edmonton Oilers fans would surely argue. Pat Lafontaines short-lived period as Buffalo Sabres President of Hockey Operations serves as a cautionary tale as well. The move can make sense from a business standpoint. A flashy hire of a former fan favourite can do a lot to curb poor season ticket sales – a rumoured consideration in the Canucks hiring of Linden – although that wont factor into any Leafs decisions. Toronto went down this path before, hiring former Montreal Canadiens great Ken Dryden as President in 1997. He lasted seven years with the Leafs, overseeing some of the most successful Leafs teams in recent memory. Will a similar hire lead to comparable results, or - Leafs fans hope - even better ones? Is hiring a former star player to run hockey operations a good move for a team? Youve heard what weve had to say, now its your turn. As always, its Your! Call. Cheap Clearance Shoes . The game was the first of two international friendlies that Canada is playing during the international break, with the second game against Slovenia set for Tuesday in Celje. Canada looked uncomfortable defensively throughout the game, and every free kick that came into Canadas penalty box looked like ending up in the back of the net. Cheap Clearance Shoes Online . The result was a game-winning, power-play goal. Chiasson snapped a third-period tie and lifted the Dallas Stars to a 3-2 victory on Monday night. http://www.cheapshoesclearance.com/ . Tyrell appeared in seven games with the Lightning this year, he had no points in those appearances. The 24-year-old has seven goals and 17 assists in 132 career NHL games, all coming with the Lightning. He was selected in the second round, 47th overall, of the 2007 draft. Authentic Shoes Wholesale . The weekend at Oriole Park has been less kind, with three players suffering varying degrees of injury. The worst ailment of the three, at least optically, is the deep bone bruise suffered by Adam Lind when he fouled a pitch off the top of his right foot in the sixth inning of Saturdays game. Cheap Shoes From China . Erik Cole scored on a breakaway with 4:49 to play, and the Stars rallied to defeat the Minnesota Wild 4-3 on Saturday night. On a rainy May 5th, 1974, the Vancouver Whitecaps took the field for the first time and faced the San Jose Earthquakes. Almost 40 years to the day, the two teams will meet again, this time at BC Place, to celebrate the past and try to earn important points for the present. The game can be seen on TSN2, including a special Whitecaps 40th anniversary pre-match show at 6:30pm et/3:30pm pt. The Whitecaps enter the game riding the momentum of two draws earned thanks to late tying goals. In their 2-2 draw in the second of back-to-back games against the Los Angeles Galaxy, Kekuta Manneh equalized in the 86th minute after Robbie Keane had given the visitors the lead. Then after falling behind Real Salt Lake 2-0 last Saturday, Nicolas Mezquida and Sebastian Fernandez scored in the 86th and 94th minute, respectively, to rescue the second consecutive comeback point for the Whitecaps. After earning points in their first four games of the season, including two winss, the Whitecaps dropped two in a row before the draws.dddddddddddd They currently hold a 2-2-4 overall record. Meanwhile, the Earthquakes earned their first victory of the season, 1-0 over Chivas USA, in their last outing. The win snapped a five-game winless streak to start the season where they earned three points. They enter the game with a 1-2-3 record. Including that inaugural match between the two clubs which the Earthquakes captured 2-1, this will be the 34th all-time meeting of the two squads. San Jose holds the advantage, winning 14 times, while Vancouver has eight victories and they have drawn 11 matches. In the Major League Soccer era, the Whitecaps have only beaten the Earthquakes once from eight games, with four draws, though they have yet to lose an MLS game to San Jose at home. Prior to the game, team president Bob Lenarduzzi will be inducted into the teams new Ring of Honour and the 1974 team will be honoured. ' ' '
